Borders Opening Two Airport Stores This Winter

Borders’(R) airport stores were recently nominated for four key awards by "Airport Retail News" (ARN) trade magazine. The ARN awards are the most prestigious in the industry; approximately 3,000 airport executives, consultants and concessionaires nominate airport retailers for the awards and an independent panel of judges selects the winners. Last year, ARN named Borders’ airport stores the "Best New Specialty Retail Concept." The winners of this year’s awards will be announced in February.

Borders opened one new store in Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport on December 23, 2003. Gloria Jean’s Coffees operates the cafe in the Houston store. Additionally, a Borders airport store in Cincinnati was relocated to a permanent location on December 20. Borders’ next store is scheduled to open in the Las Vegas McCarran International Airport in March 2004. Six airport stores currently operate under the Borders brand, with locations in Boston, Cincinnati, Houston, Orlando and two in Newark. Five to 10 additional stores are slated to open by the end of 2004.
